Our Purpose

Welcome to PWI San Diego. We are an Insurance Industry Organization bringing together Local Insurance Profesionals in San Diego County.

We provide opportunities for networking, business development, idea exchange, career enhancement, education and giving back to the industry and the community. We do so through our General Membership Meetings and through special events like our annual Golf Tournament, Fashion Show and Holiday Party!

Here is what we strive to do!

  • Provide opportunities for networking
  • Facilitate Idea and Information Exchange through meetings, events and our new "Ask an Expert!" online facility
  • Share time to learn more about each member - their accomplishments and their challenges
  • Provide Support and Understanding - found through associating with others with similar concerns and challenges

We also strive to acknowledge professionals who excel in  insurance and associated fields.

We present two awards each year, the “Outstanding Employer of the Year” in recognition of their efforts in promoting and encouraging professionals in the insurance industry and we honor our own “Insurance Woman of the Year”.


PWI Currently Supports:

OPT at Grossmont College, a Project InVEST program.  This is a training program for students entering the insurance industry.
YWCA's Battered Women's Shelter for women in transition

Rachel's Women Center- Homless Women's Shelter

Girl Scouts of San Diego and Imperial Counties

Our support is provided through regular donations and “needs based” drives for supplies or funds. These charities are very supportive of Women in their time of need.

 

How PWI Started

In January 1981, Fireman’s Fund conducted a Professional Selling Workshop which was attended by 26 women. The benefits derived from the workshop resulted in the formation of our organization. The first meeting was held in August 1981, with Gloria Linkey as coordinator. Organization was completed in September 1982 and the name Professional Women in Insurance  was adopted with Gloria Linkey as our first President.  We changed our name to just PWI in 2008 as we now have male and female members. PWI is a local organization and is not affiliated with any national organization.
